Wednesdaymania 24: It's still a work, guys

So. It's been another bad couple weeks for injuries.

Jim Ross had a bad fall at a friend's house and bashed his face up almost beyond recognition.

This man is a treasure and we must not lose him.
I should mention that last year in September, he also ended up with an injury that cracked a vertebrae according to his Twitter:

And he only found out about the vertebrae because he just now had an MRI...
So Ross is battered but unbroken. Uh. Except that one vertebrae...

But there's a couple other guys who weren't quite so lucky...

David Arquette might not be your cup of tea. The actor is a big-time Mark (remember Ready to Rumble? The movie about fans who get involved in wrestling? Did you know that WCW actually turned that into a storyline?!) He was never really a wrestler, but he played one on tv pretty admirably and his Heel work is legendary. Fight me.

Anyway, Arquette, who was 29 in WCW and is now forty seven years old, decided recently to do Indy dates. He had his first death match recently.

Damn. Not a bad physique for a dude who's almost 50...
Unfortunately, he's not a particularly well-trained wrestler, so...

He's now 100% aware that Death Matches are "not his thing"
He wound up hospitalized for neck injuries after the match involved having light-tubes smashed over his head.

Personally, I think that Joey Janela, whose promotion this took place under, may want to rethink just how extreme things can get. His insurance is going to be insane.

Now, on the same night, at the same show (LA Confidential), Marko Stunt was also injured. I will not show this injury, because it's pretty awful and I have a thing about broken or mangled limbs...

Because Marko Stunt, Mr. Fun-Size, a man who is all of 5'2" (157cm) and 125lbs (~57kg), took a Canadian Destroyer onto an "elevated table" and broke his fibula badly enough that he, too wound up in the hospital. Stunt required surgery.

Finally, there was a match between Low-Ki and Daga in MLW where Ki decimated Daga's cauliflower ear in one of the bloodiest moment's I've ever seen on YouTube. Admittedly, I'm not an adventurous viewer, so... ew.

All of this has prompted Chris Jericho to come out and remind everyone that wrestling is still a work. If Chris Jericho has to remind you to stop killing each other, you know things are getting a little too crazy. I know people like to compare pro-wrestling to modern-day gladiatorial combat, but it's not supposed to be for real. That's what UFC and MMA are for. That's what Boxing and Amateur Wrestling is for. Pro-Wrestling is for entertainment, not real injury!

Hopefully I won't have a new crop of horrifying injuries to report on next week.

Go Enjoy Something!
