In Which Heat And I Are Not Friends

I could not sleep at all last night. Between the heat and how hard it was for me to find my collection of tank tops, I was exhausted. I got up at 4:30AM to go to the bathroom and just... gave up. The sun was rising, the birds were singing, the cat was curious.

I got some coffee and went back to bed. The second time I got up, I went down for a second hefty mug of coffee and curled up on the couch while my head sloshed. It honestly felt like my skull was filled with hot water, I was so tired. Eventually I dozed until around noon, then I got my day started.

Today's temperatures were about the same as yesterday, but we had about 20% more humidity so it really just sucked.

I'm sleepy, I'm annoyed at how little I've done on the crocheted pouch, and I'm creatively washed out. It's hard to write when all you can think about is the way your armpits are sticking to themselves or the way you can feel steam building under your spine where you lay on your bed.

It's hard to draw, too - holding a pencil makes my fingers hot, and frankly, I just can't think of something to draw.

I'll figure it out by the end of tomorrow, but yeesh.

I'm pooped.

And we are not getting relief until Sunday. Our daily highs are 80℉ (26,7℃) and up, power rates just increased by apparently enough to double our bill, and we already had a brownout yesterday so it's just gonna be a really crummy summer, I think.

I hope they don't jack up the water bill, too, because I foresee a plentitude of cool showers in my future.

We'll see what the rest of the week brings, but I'm not going to fight through a heat headache to do art. If I make art, I make art.

Meanwhile, I've just dug up a bunch of old black pants that don't fit me anymore (and won't unless I drop an unreasonable amount of weight - one pair is from middle school, when I was about 13), which I might turn into various projects, I've got a pair of shorts to repair the waistband of, a winter coat in need of a zipper.

I've got work to do, in short, and I don't think this is the week it will happen.

In fact, I think tonight is just going to be for watching videos and relaxing until the glowing hate ball (the sun) rises again.

I'll do my best to keep posting.

Go Enjoy Something (maybe the beach if it's hot where you are, too),

In Which This Week is Heavy

So. My father has COVID.

I live with my parents.

Thus, I am currently in Quarantine, hoping I don't catch it.

It'll be hard to tell - my allergies are awful lately (the damp really aggravates them), and hand sanitizer/cleaning supplies make my sinuses itch & ache, so uh... yeah. Not gonna be fun.

We're taking precautions - Clorox everywhere, hand sanitizer, masks, hand-washing, ventilation (despite the rain) - but man, could we, collectively, catch a break, here?

I've got friends down with the 'Rona, my dad's down with it, my mom and I are doing our best to avoid it, and I don't get to hang out with my partner this week, which makes sense but sucks, and all of this is not fun at all.

I'm trying to stay upbeat and trying to keep my mind occupied. I have crochet, Tears of the Kingdom, books, art...

And I should be fine. Vaxxed to the gills, taking precautions, avoiding standing too close to people.

If I can, I think I'll go outside tomorrow. I might be able to sneak in some outside time between thunderstorms.

Besides brief forays outside, my plans for tomorrow include... art, really. I have some ideas I'd like to try out - some are fanart (not all Zelda-related, believe it or not), and some are just ideas I've had. We'll see. Optimally, I'll get some sleep tonight and wake up refreshed enough to paint like crazy. Maybe I'll even be able to finish some really good ones and scan them!

Maybe nothing will get done - maybe I'll stare at blank pages and wish for better luck.

I'll probably paint though.

Regardless, you'll hear from me on Thursday with *something* to post.

And if I finish my art in a way I'm satisfied with, I'm going to read, dammit.

And write. I've been neglecting both since May.

For now, I'm just very sleepy (I did not sleep well last night because of the thunder, rain, and sticky air). I hope I sleep well tonight - it'd be nice if my brain would politely slip into dreamsville on command lol.

With how much I've been crocheting, I'll have the 2nd leaf finished for next Monday, plus I could even get the pouches themselves finished... that's probably overambitious, though, so I'll just aim for leaves lol.

I might also make a leaf crown for myself (or a leaf necklace...), and I am still trying to figure out my Shoulder Dragon concept...

I'll post whatever crochet I do next Monday, then I'll give you life updates next Tuesday.

Tonight is for silly videos and snooziness.

Tomorrow is for art.

Talk About Tuesday

So Uh... It's been a while...

Not gonna spin you the whole nine yards about the last week or so. I'll just come right out and say it.

I have felt incredibly bleh for the last week or so. Haven't had any motivation, haven't been able to sleep well, haven't been myself.

It's not COVID, I'm pretty sure. I think I'm just hitting a Seasonal Transition Depression. Happens between every single season - the weather shifts and I feel like... poo.

It's usually worse right before winter and right before summer, too, so this makes sense.

And for those who insist that Summer starts halfway through June, reality begs to disagree. The seasons are shifting. summer starts in the last half of May, Spring starts on Apr 1, Fall starts on Sept 30, and Winter starts November 27. They're jagged, uneven things, and none of them are as enjoyable in my 30s as they were in my childhood.

The nicest things I did since last Tuesday were writing 250 words in one of my books, hanging out with my guy, and watching a lot of wombat videos.

I also made some really nice yakisoba for him & me. Complete with ramen eggs that were pretty tasty!

Probably the worst things that happened this week were:

Mice made their home in the mower's engine and we found out the hard way. No survivors. Mass nausea.

My cat stepped in another cat's poop outside and I had to help my mom wash her paws. The cat was unamused and hooked her poopy claws into the inside of my arm. There's bruising. FYI, rubbing alcohol and antibiotic ointment don't feel great.

I haven't slept more than 5 hours a night for the last 7 days. It's... bad.

I wanted those ramen eggs to be soft boiled but I still don't know at what point a 6 minute egg is actually a 6 minute egg (do you measure from boil or from the moment the egg is introduced to the stovetop?!) and also we don't have any ice to make ice water with. I also left them in the marinade for about 3 hours too long. Still good, but not exactly what I wanted.

Hopefully, though, I'll be able to get my silly butt to sleep for a full 8 hours and actually do the things I want to do!

This week's tentative plans:
Thursday: Art! Hopefully I can get my act together and actually draw something!
Monday: Figure out what I'm going to do with that Mushroom... can't quite figure it out yet.
Tuesday: Show up with hopefully less excuses and more excitement!

I am really sorry that I didn't have any good progress or fun stories for you this week. I've been bleh, and I'm looking forward to not being bleh!

Talk About Tuesday

In Which I Ate A LOT of Cheese this Week and it's only Tuesday...

American Independence Day has come and gone, and it was a weird one this year. I went to a concert in the rain so I could celebrate my dad getting a tile at the veterans' monument in my town (he's not dead - the monument is for literally anyone who served or is serving in any branch of the Armed Forces...), got soaked, and then was able to meet up with my partner as a bit of a surprise.

We celebrated this surprise visit with a block of brie and some summer sausage while watching a bunch of Irish Lads talk about the Hobbit movie. And we also ordered a pizza and bread bites. Which we annihilated and washed down with Coke & Mt Dew...

Yes, I'm that gluttonous. No, I don't regret it.

Yes, I'll absolutely do it again some day.

That being said, I really should be kinder to my poor body - it puts up with rather a lot from me.

So of course Monday saw me jamming it full of too much coffee and hot chocolate.

Today, though, I made a little plate (and I mean little - they're 6" plates [approx 15.24cm]) of Cathedral City Vintage Cheddar (10/10 do recommend), some dry salami, four crackers and a cup of tropical fruit.

I have eaten that and two Strawberry Pop Tarts today. Plus 2 cups of mocha and a half liter of water. I already feel better lol!

This might sound weird, but I don't really have any major plans for this week - I've got ideas but I haven't got a clue how to get started on them, so I don't want to blather on about things right now. I have the most tentative of tentative plans for this week:
  • Go shopping for snax & random stuff on Wednesday
  • Maybe see if I can repot my watercolor paints
  • Check prices on watercolor pencils
  • Look for my set of watercolor pencils even though I know half of them are shattered inside
  • Gather a bunch of reference images
  • Test-Sketch some ideas out
  • Try to walk a couple miles by Sunday
  • Drink more water
  • Eat more cheese because it's delicious
  • Try to paint some more
We'll see how many of these I get done this week lol!

As for today, it's hot in my room, warm downstairs, and hot in the sun. The ambient temp is about 78℉ (25.6℃) with about 68% humidity. It's partly sunny out there, and the squirrels have been play-fighting all day. My cat has become obsessed with my tote filled with torn pants I want to make things out of. I am wearing yoga pants and a Peanut Butter Gamer t-shirt because I had no plans to leave the house today and have succeeded in those plans lol.

Is anyone else feeling the inertia this week? Is it just me? Are things you love coming harder? Or am I just overtired and under-exercised...

It's probably that last one :|

Anywho, I'm going to go try to figure out how to draw various goofy animals as Japanese warriors.
