Talk About Tuesday

In Which I Am Working Hard!

Sweet Caroline (bum bum bum)!

I am a wee bit pooped. Why? Because the Christmas Crunch continues and I'm trying my best to figure out how to make one of my gifts lol. I'm also making up a second, and I have a few more left to make/finish. I am pretty pleased with my progress, but I'll be happy to give the frequent crochet a break soon lol.

As for the rest of this week, my plan is to start doing more art tomorrow (maybe after taking a quick hop down to the shops to see about a silvervine twig or some nip for my cat...).

I'll also be working on art for Thursday, but who knows what will come out.

Actually, I might be trying something for 2023. We'll see if I manage it. I miss making videos, but I don't often cook, so I was thinking I could maybe sum up my creative endeavors over a week over on YouTube? Like a slideshow of my art, anything I might find on walks, any food I make, crochet I've made, etc? Would there be any interest on that? I would have to teach myself how to add voiceover, and learn more editing skills, but it might be fun.

Aside from that, I don't have much to talk about besides that I'm very tired, I constantly crave beef jerky, and keep making weird grumbly sounds.

Think I'm turning into a bear.

Hibernating sounds very nice.

I do have other plans and ideas, too:

  • I'd like to beat Winter 1 on Stardew in my latest farm
  • I'd like to find a book to read
  • I'd like to earn another Amazon Card or 6 through Mistplay or whatever so I can preorder Tears of the Kingdom (which, if y'all are very patient, I might even try to review, because this did used to be a gaming blog...)
  • I'd like to bake more bread
  • I'd like to get back to polishing rocks, because that was fun
  • I'd like to drop a few pounds so it's easier to ride my bike.
  • I'd like to hike a mountain, locally, with my camera
  • I'd like to go to the beach more often next year. Maybe take 1 day per week to stroll the shore.
  • I'd like to make some Goblin Jewelry (find random stuff and string it like beads - twigs, seeds, acorns, pebbles, shells, etc)
  • I'd like to make sushi - proper sushi.
I have a lot of ideas.

I don't have a lot of energy.

Somehow I need to figure out how to match these two things up.

If anyone has any suggestions, feel free to comment below - I don't see anyone's email addresses or whatever, just a name and a comment!

And if you want a say in this week's art, feel free to shoot me a coffee over on Ko-Fi with an attached message telling me the category you're looking for - Animal, Vegetable, Mineral, Location, Geometric, Dedbert, or Word!

For now, I think that'll do it from me today. I am having a bear of a time focusing ;)

Thursday Art Walk

In Which Plans Sometimes Fall Through
And That's Okay

I'm working on some more abstract digital art, and that's going... weirdly. I made a major oopsie last night, didn't catch it til this afternoon, and had to start over.

It's not getting done tonight.

So about an hour ago, I ate some spaghetti and decided to try a Timer Challenge.

The prompts I drew were "Self Portrait" and "Fruit". My times were "20 minutes" and "5 minutes".

I grabbed a Ticonderoga Black and my big green sketchbook, and I got to work.

"20 Minute Self Portrait"; graphite on sketch paper; 2022

"Five Minute Pears"; graphite on sketch paper; 2022

I'm honestly way happier with the pears than the self portrait... but what can I really expect from a 20 minute self portrait? I wasn't taking my time, I wasn't getting everything perfect, I was beating a timer?

If you're looking for a good exercise to get your creative juices going, I'd recommend looking up an art prompt, then randomly assigning yourself a time. If you'd like to add a little D&D element to this exercise, go pick a prompt from somewhere, then roll a d10 on this table for times!

  1. 30 seconds
  2. 1 minute
  3. 5 minutes
  4. 10 minutes
  5. 15 minutes
  6. 20 minutes
  7. 30 minutes
  8. 45 minutes
  9. 1 hour
  10. Roll 2x

Speaking of prompts, if you'd like to have a say in what I draw next, feel free to buy me a coffee over on Ko-Fi and leave a message there with which category of mine you'd like to see next! Today's categories were "Animal" (the self-portrait) and "Vegetable" (the pears). Available categories are:
  • Animal
  • Vegetable
  • Mineral
  • Dedbert
  • Location
  • Geometric
  • Word
I'll get back to work on my digital mess, now.

Fiber Monday

In Which I Forgot to Take Photos Sorry

I'm lazy.

That's not exactly a surprise to anyone who knows me.

I'm... not the kind of lazy that does nothing, though.

I'm the kind of lazy that starts to do something, gets distracted, does something else, gets distracted, and ricochets from project to project until something gets done.

I'm told this is common with people who have ADHD. I won't say that's me, though, because I'm not professionally diagnosed and while I seem to hit literally every symptom there is, I'm not a doctor.

Now why am I telling you all this today, on Fiber Monday?

Because I am 90% done on at least two projects and possibly 5% done on another.

And I have 0% photographs.

I usually take my pics throughout the week and upload them the day of the blog, but this week I just never bothered to take any photos. My bad? But also, I feel a bit guilty because I wanted to have way more completed by today.

I have a pumpkin that needs stuffing and a stem attached.

I have a kitty hat that needs finishing.

I have a filet crochet project I started and haven't worked on in two weeks.

I have a capelet that I started working on that I don't know if I'll finish.

I have... no attention span lately.

The weather has not been helping - either the days are warm and I don't want to "waste" them inside, or they're cold and rainy and I can't focus. Today it's sunny but the wind is screaming around the house, forcing its way through every crack and chink in the siding and windows. It's very distracting.

Another unfortunate side effect of these 27-36mph (43.5-58kph) winds is that I couldn't really sleep last night and a nap is not gonna happen as long as the roaring continues.

I'm very tired and very distractible. Hopefully, though, I can get some finishing work done this week and move on to other projects to show off lol!

I hope you're all having an easier time getting creative work done than I am!

Sorry again there's not more crochet on the crochet blog this week!
