In Which I Am Pooped
And I'm Sure You Are Too.

Friends, Craftsfolk, Netizens...

The Christmas Crunch of 2022 is finally over.

I was hooking up a storm right up til 9AM on Christmas morning, finishing my dad's gift - a simple half-double-crochet hat - and it's finally, finally over.

Now begins the Christmas Crash.

The Christmas Crash is exactly what it sounds like - after you've finished the Crush, you're exhausted, so you basically take a week off. As 99% of my activities were Crochet-Related, I'll be taking the rest of this week away from yarn, I think.

If that changes, you'll know because I'll have something new next Monday and a frantic explanation of why I totally couldn't take time off because I had a great idea lol.

For now, though, I'll take a break. My knuckles are sore and it'd be nice to watch a video without subconsciously counting stitches.

It is so important to take breaks. Please remember to rest your hands after a long period of crafting! You can't make if you can't move!

I should be back tomorrow to talk about the final stretch to Christmas and my plans for the next few days, but for now...

In Which Progress Doesn't... look like much tbh

So the last couple of weeks (pretty much ever since I made that cute little Goblin's Purse) I haven't been showing much crochet. This isn't because I haven't been doing much crochet, it's because what I have been doing is so repetitive and plain that it doesn't look like I've been doing crochet.

That's why there aren't any photos this week.

Also because I'm super duper cozy and don't want to get up and take photos, to be perfectly honest.

It's been perfect weather to curl up and crochet lately (48-67℉/8,9-19,4℃), and I've been in long sleeves and flannel and pants and it's been lovely, but the patterns I'm working on (a pair of gloves, a shrug, the Mushroom Bag) are largely repetitious and same-y, so it doesn't look like I'm making any progress on them.

The Shrug is very close to completion - I'm at about 14.5" (36,83cm) wide with a goal of 17" (43,18cm) before I fold it and sew in the arm holes, then I have to do the edging, which I'm still not sure which one I'll use.

The gloves are just now reaching the thumb stage, which will be visible, but right now they just look like a weird beige lacy cylindar.

The bag is.... frustrating. Every time I think I have a solution, three more problems pop up. I think I can figure it out, and when it's finally done, I think we'll all be happy.

Boy is today the "I Think" day on the blog...

But I've also been busy with other things, and hopefully you'll understand more in a few days what I've been up to.

Related - does anyone have any suggestions on what to use as a polishing compound if the green stuff that came with your rotary tool is solidified? I've read that toothpaste is okay to use, but I'd like to know more.

Anywho, I promise I have actually been working on crochet, but that's just how it do be sometimes, I guess. Sometimes you can work for 8 hours straight and look down at your project and think "Where is all that work I just did? It looks the same!"

Don't lose heart if this is happening to you, too. Just measure after every pattern repeat and try to maintain your gauge, and you'll get through. So will I.

I think that's all I have for today, so keep on hooking along, friends, and...

In Which Ow

A word from the recently-made-wise: do not knead dough and walk 3.5 miles (5.6km) while dehydrated if you then want to crochet at all.

My hands and forearms ache from the kneading (yes, pathetic, I know, I've never kneaded dough for longer than 3 minutes before). The soft pad of my palm where the thumb connects is especially sore, and any sort of movement at the elbow causes an ache to form along the underside of my arm. This is anti-conducive to crochet, unfortunately.

As for the walking, I managed to make my legs sore from ankle to knee and every time I get out of bed it feels like I've been kicked in both ankles. My toes ache, too.

I need to get back into shape. Thankfully, the discovery that the fabric store, art supply shop, and new bookstore are open now does motivate me to go outside more often and I just invested in a bike lock so guess who might be tooling around the town with a crochet project or a sketchbook in the next... 2 weeks? It said the 10th.

Cue me, waiting as impatiently as ever the second the damn thing ships lol.

So yes, due to ow, I have not crafted at all.

I am thinking up some projects and may actually get around finishing some old ones (we'll see lol).

Tomorrow I hope to talk more about life-stuff, but for today, accept my apology for not crocheting anything lol!

That's all from me,
