Wednesdaymania 210: WCW Uncensored 1997

Welcome to another commissioned edition of Wednesdaymania, folks. I've got something a little special for you today, since I was asked to do a review of WCW's Uncensored Pay Per View from 1997. The date was March 16, which means that it will have been 22 years ago in ten days. That's right, this Pay Per View can now vote, drive, drink, smoke, get married, and get drafted.

Ouch.

I'll stop.

So yeah, here's Uncensored '97!

This title card had an epileptic's nightmare of a background.
It was constantly flashing and changing, and it was almost impossible to look at.

We're off to a bad start with the eternal and unwatchable title card, but then we're thrust into the thick of it, live from Charleston, SC. Pyro and hicks abound in the stadium, but the commentary team is what I consider peak and magnificent WCW:

Dusty Rhodes, Tony Schiavone, and Bobby Heenan.
Only one of these guys pretended to care about the PPV.
Spoilers: It's not Dusty (who likely booked it) or Bobby (who was probably a little tipsy).
The commentary team contemplates what role Dennis Rodman will play in this PPV and how the NWO will behave. I'll be honest, I was paying more attention to their awesome desk, which seemed to be made from corrugated metal roofing and sheet metal. It looked great, they looked great, but the storyline was maybe not so great since Dennis Rodman was involved. That being said, let's all thank Dennis Rodman for helping us not get blown up by North Korea.

Thank you, Mr. Rodman.

We now go to the first match!
1) No Disqualification, US Championship match - Eddie Guerrero (champ) vs Dean Malenko

I believe I've mentioned before that Dean Malenko is why I watch wrestling, right? Because he is. This match is... this match is incredible. I love them both.

They start the match like a house on fire, shoving each other and trying to assert dominance. Then they get into some beautiful chain technical wrestling that nearly made me drool. Seriously. If you want to see a match that's all about what I love about wrestling, this is one of the ones to watch...

Except for the commentary.

At one point, Dusty, who may be a little tipsy himself, begins gibbering about "stompers" and "stompees" and he just won't stop. Then something happens backstage and they commit a cardinal sin: they ignore the incredible match in front of them and cut to some stupid subplot in the back involving the NWO likely having beaten Rick Steiner the Dogface Gremlin down. I didn't care about that and was very disappointed to have my good match interrupted with a nearly pointless storyline.

The camera returned to find Malenko & Guerrero in the middle of trading very good holds. This continued for some time, with both Malenko & Guerrero giving a grade A++ performance until suddenly Syxx (better known now as X-Pac) showed up and overthrew the finish, giving Dean Malenko the belt.

I really couldn't complain about Dean winning, so I didn't try.

Between this match and the next was a brief interview in the locker rooms between Mean Gene Okerlund and Rowdy Roddy Piper. Piper is insane.

I literally cannot find this promo, but one part stood out to me.

"Rodman, he wanted to try on my kilt, which, y'know, not a problem. Only problem - he wanted to do it with me in it!"

It's one of the most Roddy Piper lines I've ever heard, and I howled for the rest of the promo. He was an intense dude. Super intense.

Then they were interrupted by the New Horsemen, and eventually the promo segment ended, throwing us to our next match.

These two guys, man... these guys.

2) Psychosis vs Ultimate Dragon with Sonny Onoo

This match is another prime example of why I love wrestling. Sonny is a truly effective bad-guy manager, villainously messing with Psychosis at every available opportunity. Like with the Malenko/Guerrero match, however, there are very weak moments on commentary, this time because of Heenan and his very obvious disdain for both Lucha style and Japanese wrestlers in general. Then again, he does have a funny line about Sonny having illicit pictures on his camera that he'd share backstage. The camera gimmick, by the way, was one of several reasons Sonny Onoo later sued WCW (and won), since it was super racist.

Thankfully, the commentary is rescued by "Iron" Mike Tenay, who always gives good commentary on matches like this.

Speaking of matches, this one starts instantly, explosively, and beautifully, with some really convincing emotion - that emotion being namely hatred - between Psychosis & UD. This is, by the way, the same Ultimate Dragon who was also known as Ultimo Dragon and is still wrestling in Japan today, though it's in AJPW instead of NJPW.

At one point, Psychosis performs a guillotine leg drop that hits Dragon in the face and looks like it could have legitimately done some damage. There's another moment where Dragon is outside the ring and Psychosis performs a Tope Suicida onto him that ends up with them "on carpet over particle board over ice", as they're in a hockey arena, and then Psychosis follows it up with another terrifying and painful guillotine leg drop. Both men are insane.

Sonny, at this point, has had enough and attacks Psychosis with some rapid strikes. The ref doesn't see this, but when he sees Psychosis down and Sonny standing near him, he begins to put things together. Sonny defends himself, saying that Psychosis "Maybe slipped? Had an accident!" It was a great moment.

It was a wonderful, brutal match ending with Ultimate Dragon pinning Psychosis. At this point, I realized that Sonny had a New Japan t-shirt on under his suit jacket.

All around, a fantastic match.

We're interrupted by Mean Gene peddling the 1-900 number that WCW ran, talking about someone who was leaving WCW. Then he interviews "hot commodity" DDP, who... seems a little tipsy in this interview. I'm pretty sure he was mostly sober during this time, but I could be wrong. He's acting like Scott Hall during Spring Break, though, so... I dunno. Then they're interrupted by Macho Man (accompanied by a sadly stoned-out-of-her-mind Miss Elizabeth), who talks about how much R E S P E C T he has for DDP and gives him props for having a hot wife (Kimberly), who had recently posed for Playboy. I'm not sure why DDP is so mad at first, but I like the visual gag where they've spraypainted "NWO" over the... sensitive content in the magazine spread.

The "tastefulness" (for wrestling) ends there, because of course you can't have women in wrestling without a disgusting implied rape subplot, and poor Kimberly is dragged out from backstage in a dress that has been mussed up and has NWO spraypainted all over it.

Macho & the NWO beat down DDP in front of his wife and spray their logo on his back. Then they re-spray Kimberly some more.

It's deeply upsetting to see this and I don't feel that a plot like this has any place in wrestling. Ever.

Wretched.

Unfortunately, the next match did nothing to bring my emotions back up.

I love Mortal Kombat, but I can't love this :(

3) Martial Arts Match - Mortis with James Vanderberg vs Glacier

As Mortis comes out to the ring, the commentary team has a brief debate over whether or not he's alive. Tony Sciavone declares that he is, but... sadly, since Mortis is portrayed by Chris Kanyon, this is no longer the case. Great way to bring the mood up after an awful rape plot.

Sadly, despite both men being excellent on their own merits and usually having good chemistry in the ring, this is mostly a glorified kicking match with the occasional good moment, spoiled by the awful commentary. Glacier's Shawn Michaels-style selling is undercut by Dusty Rhodes blabbering about putting his foot in his mouth and the fact that the match feels like a 20 minute slog rather than a 9 minute match.

They're interrupted during Glacier's victory by Adam Bomb showing up as the new character "Wrath". Honestly, I wish this storyline and division had worked out, because this was some WMAC Masters stuff and that show was gloriously terrible and I love it.

So of course Heenan undercuts this by claiming repeatedly that he has "certainly never seen (Wrath) before in my life".  Heenan knew Adam Bomb pretty well at this point. I'd literally just watched him talking about him in WWE.

We are once again interrupted, this time with shaky home video footage in black & white from (clearly) the NWO running the Steiner brothers off the road and causing a terrible accident. Then we get the NWO B-Team music and...

It's not a Yapapai Strap Match, but it's just as boring.
4) Strap Match - Buff Bagwell vs Scotty Riggs (who has his American Males music)

I don't like Strap matches. I don't particularly like watching Buff Bagwell matches. I don't particularly enjoy watching Scotty Riggs matches. This... didn't change my mind on any of these opinions, but it wasn't terrible, I guess.

Buff plays chickenshit heel very well, cowering outside the ring until he's forced to accept the strap around his wrist, and the two make the best of a bad match format. Seriously, I don't get strap matches that aren't also Iron Man matches. Why wouldn't you just (if you're the stronger man) drag your opponent with you and just tap the ring posts immediately? Why bother fighting? It's dumb.

Even Dusty, who again, likely set this match up, didn't care. He was busy babbling about SEE-MENT and Playboy. Buff tries to get himself over with decent heel work, talking directly into the camera and giving his own snarky commentary on the match's progress, but it's too little too late. It's already a strap match, and I already don't care.

At one point, Dusty erupts with "Get him in a fightal - er - fetal position!" quickly followed up by a much quieter "Don't look at me like that" to one of his fellow commentary men. Probably both, to be honest. That got a good chuckle out of me.

Z actually may have fallen asleep during this match, as we watched it together. I wish I could have.

Buff won.

We lost.

Another interruption - this one an NWO ad/promo where they made the subtext of possibly sexually assaulting DDP's wife into actual text. My notes:

Why. Gross.

What the **** is happening?! WHY IS THIS STILL HAPPENING...

And then I was rescued by the next match. Kind of.

Well, it's half of a good match, at least...

5) Tornado Tag Match - Harlem Heat with Sister Sherri vs Public Enemy

Let it be known that Sherri Martel was one of the most badass women in wrestling, that she was one of the most beautiful, one of the most dedicated to the business, and one of the wildest.

Let it also be known that I have a huge crush on the Sister Sherri persona.

The WWE Network's dub over the Public Enemy theme is actually pretty good, but I was a little busy staring at Sherri and enjoying the fact that Harlem Heat was awesome. Then the match starts and it's a total bludgeon-fest.

Public Enemy has brought trash cans filled with random objects to the ring, including cookie sheets and bits of wood and even, perhaps most importantly, a toilet seat.

That toilet seat gets almost as much airtime as Sherri does and they seem to be equally intrinsic to the flow of the match.

How often can that be said?

That being said, Sherri beating the everloving dog snot out of Public Enemy doesn't send Dusty Rhodes into laughter-orbit - the toilet seat and its mere presence do.

Sherri is the absolute MVP of this match, even letting Johnny Grunge bleed on her face while she punishes him. She also lets him throw her into the barricade. This woman had a broken spine before this. Her drug habits mostly revolved around the fact that she could barely walk. She let a man who could barely walk to the ring without botching throw her, spine first, into a steel barricade.

Sherri Martel.

Absolute Legend.

Then the Horsemen interfere on Harlem Heat's behalf, winning them the match.

Usually, I'd hate run-ins like this, but it's for legitimate and interesting storyline purposes, so I'll let it slide...

Gene is in the locker room again. If the NWO lose the main event tonight, they'll lose all their belts. If they win, they get to run the television shows. Scott Steiner has a ponytail and is hanging out with The Giant (Big Show) and Lex Luger. Scott wants the NWO and warns Piper & the Horsemen away. Lex gives a pretty decent promo after the Giant says a few words.

:| I dunno about this, guys.
6) World Television Championship - Rey Mysterio (champ) vs Prince Iaukea

I'm positive that Prince Iaukea was a really great guy and a "good brother" as they say in the business.

I just don't think he ever really knew how to have a good match. My notes literally say: "Go take your nacho dumps". It's one of the only notes I took on this match because it was a nothing match. The only thing that makes it interesting is that it goes to the time limit.

And then Rey makes them keep going for a real winner.

And loses.

Ugh.

This nothing of a match was followed by an ad for Spring Stampede with the Horsemen. It's a pretty decent ad. Everyone's dressed like a cowboy, sitting on horses, looking awkward. It's great. Unfortunately, now it's time for the Main Event.

Uuuuuuuuugggggggghhhhhhhh

7) Triangle Match - NWO vs Horsemen & Piper vs WCW

May I just say that I find Michael Buffer to be insufferable. He is obnoxious and he sounds like he's about to sneeze. There. I said it.

Also, this match format makes 0 sense. It's like a mini tournament but also like a mini Royal Rumble? I dunno.

Piper's bagpipes play over Benoit coming out to the ring (He's one of the Horsemen... also weird).

The first matchup is Scott Hall vs the Giant vs Chris Benoit, which goes pretty well. Eventually, though, everyone's in the ring, and it just gets messy. Eliminations are over-the-top-rope, and some of them look brutal.

Somehow (through cheating, of course), the NWO prevail and spray paint Luger in the ring. Their celebrations are cut short, however...

By this insanity

Sting drops like a graceful stone to the ring, unclips, and begins wreaking havoc on the NWO, chasing them from the ring with a baseball bat. There's a moment of confrontation between he and Hogan, interrupted by Rodman, and there's a brawl.

He's 100% a boss.
All in all, guys, I'd call this a B- Pay Per View, but that is an A+ finish, right there!

I think that'll about do it for me today!

Talk About Tuesday 210

Boy has today been a rough one.

First I woke up around 4AM with my upper back & shoulders seized up from shoveling without stretching first. To add insult to injury, I also had awful heartburn from dinner. It was so bad that I had to go downstairs and try to sit on the couch, hoping that being vertical would help the heartburn, at least. It didn't work. I ended up dozing on the couch for hours.

Around 8AM, I was awakened by something magical, however...

There's a show I fell in love with when I had to work in the morning. It was on one of the PBS affiliates that came in on our tv, and it was from Japan. I'd just begun to fall in love with Japanese food, so watching actual Japanese chefs make this food in Japan on a national Japanese television show for Gaijin (foreigners)? Awesome.

Today's episode of Dining With The Chef was for Sweet & Sour pork spare ribs.

So of course, that's when my body gave up again and I started drifting in and out. I missed most of the episode, but boy do I want to eat everything they showed on that episode. If you can find the episode of Dining With The Chef with Chef Rika making this dish, feel free to leave a comment with a link in it!

And now I'm hungry. Which is a change from when I first woke up where the very thought of food had me trembling with discomfort. Twice-Cooked Pork is amazing, but I think I wasn't in a gut space to handle it...

Anyhow, you guys aren't here to hear about me wasting a beautiful (if chilly) day sleeping on the couch in front of PBS.

  • Tomorrow is another commissioned Wednesdaymania! I'll put one bit of the bad news that I'll also have to put on the blog right here: we lost King Kong Bundy today. It sucks. He was 61.
  • Thursday has me making art! I'll also be heading to my local library for a showing of The Beast from 20000 Fathoms, which should be a blast!
  • Friday will be about a weeeeeeeeeird movie that, in my opinion, maybe should've gotten more Oscars and was infinitely more deserving than Green Book. Z knows what I'm talking about. The best movie about rabbits this decade.
  • Saturday will likely be about one of the weird logic games I've been playing. Either that or I'll cover one of the other free games I've been fiddling around with on Kongregate...
  • Sunday... I don't know. If I get a chance on Thursday between the art and the movie, I might bake... If I don't bake, I'll think of something, never fear!
  • Monday will have me finishing limbs and making a tail for our cat. That should be... interesting.
  • Tuesday next will have me blathering on about scheduling once more!

In other news, I've been working on more story stuff, and while Byrd is far slower-progressing than I'm pleased with, I'm making great leaps on the meat of Butters Ridge and I accidentally came up with a concept for a maybe someday video game I'm calling Revigille or Revigil (I haven't decided yet).

I should really get to posting this so I can get ready to head out - six to eight inches of snow fell out there and it's going to take me twice as long as usual to get anywhere...

Fiber Monday 210: Amigurumi Cat oopsies...

So... I botched the arms last week.

Sorry about that.

See, I wasn't reading the pattern properly, and I increased instead of decreased. I also used too light a yarn for the accent color. I've fixed that this week, though!

Yeah, so I used the Kirby-foot pink for the new paws!
And here I'm (sc2tog, sc1) 4 times around...
unlike the (sc, 2sc) around that I was doing before... Ugh.

There's round 7 completed correctly.

Round 14 completed. There's something... weird about these feets...

They kinda look like a weird half-q-tip... They also look more like proper forelegs.

Here's both completed arms!

Now to start the feet...
We have 6sc into a magic ring, then 2sc around (12sc),
then (sc 3, 2sc) around three times to give you 15sc around!

The next 4 rounds are straight sc around.

Round 8 has us doing (sc, sc2tog) five times, leaving us with 10sc around

Here we have rounds 9-16 completed in our main body color!
Straight sc here.

A finished leg.
The legs are four rounds shorter than the arms, but that's okay. I kinda like how wonky our kitty's going to be. I have to finish the second leg (unless he decides to be a tripod kitty. I don't know...) also, I'm going to be using that swirly pink goodness for his muzzle! I might be able to figure out a way to stitch it onto the fronts of his ears, too, if I'm careful!

Sorry about the mixup with the blue arm last week. These things are going to happen from time to time, and I try to be upfront when I have to restart a section.

Here's the Pattern!

Survival Sunday 209: Pork Loin Roast?!

It's not often that the preparation of dinner is left in my hands, but that was the case this week! My mother wanted to make a pork loin roast for dinner, and since she'd be at work, she left me to do the prep. It's a shockingly easy meal to make, I promise, and the ingredients list isn't that long either!

Your necessities are: 1 pork loin roast. 1-2 apples. 1-2 onions. Our onions were small or we'd have used one bigger one!
First things first, start preheating your oven to 350℉ (175℃). Then you're going to wash, slice, & core your apples. You don't have to peel your apples. Just cut them into either quarters or eighths and then peel your onions and do the same to them. You just want your fruits and roots to be about the same size and to leave room for your roast!

My apples - I forgot to take a photo with just apples & onions...
Next, you carefully take your roast out of its package. If it has twine, leave it on. Ours didn't have twine, so I just made went to the next step: Seasoning. I used salt, pepper, and a hint of garlic powder. You can use whatever you think sounds tasty. I strongly suggest using curry powder or various kinds of pepper. Whatever you use, make sure you've got one side completely coated before transferring it to whatever you're using as a baking dish. Ours is ceramic. You might use metal or porcelain or something else. Whatever you use, it needs to be 100% NOT PLASTIC. Not that I need to tell you that. Just... I've seen some stuff, guys. I've seen some bad stuff.

Nestle your meat into its tasty bed and prepare to season the other side!!!
Please note that if one side is fattier than the other, put it facing up so the melting fat self-bastes the meat!

I could've gone far, far crazier with the pepper, I think,
but some of the people eating this roast wouldn't have liked it as much.
Keep that oven temperature exactly the same and chuck that puppy in. Ours only needed an hour and a half, but your cooking times will vary! I'm including a handy little chart here to help you math your way to safe, tasty cooking that will keep you from food poisoning!

See? 350℉. 1.5 hours. Good meat!

The roast before cooking, haloed in sunshine.
Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture of the meat when it was done cooking because people were hungry.
I assure you, it was perfectly cooked.

And here's my dinner!
The Roast is on the lower left, and yes, it's supposed to look like that.
Pork does, in fact, have light & dark meat. And this was the juiciest roast I've had in a while!
The weird brown slimy thing above the roast is either a piece of apple or some onion - it's a little hard to tell after cooking.
The veggies were frozen from a bag, then nuked with a tiny bit of butter.
The weird biscuity things are actually potato pancakes!

I would love to make the potato pancakes for you guys some time. It's a fantastic way to use up leftover mashed potatoes, and the more flavors you add (ours had some parmesan/asiago blend cheese in them) the more ways you can make them! They're a great tasty treat, too.

I think that'll about do it for me for today, though.

Saturday Casual Gaming 209: Nonograms Katana

I play a lot of games that no one else I know would enjoy. That's kind of my thing. I don't have many friends who'd find the idea of a match-2 game where you make the world out of seeds & air to be an entertaining prospect. That's okay.

I may have found the one style of gameplay that 0% of my friends would enjoy: Nonograms.

Don't ask me why, but I absolutely love picking my way through the math-and-logic-based puzzles to create art. If you're a Pokemon fan, you might have played Pokemon Picross, which is basically the same as Nonograms Katana, which is today's game.

Yes, it's a game involving numbers & art. Sorry.
So how do you play this madhouse of a logic game?

Carefully. You play carefully.
You have a grid. You have numbers on the outside of the grid. In Black & White puzzles, the numbers are the amount of black squares uninterrupted by white ones. If you see 1, 1, 10, 5 then you have 1 black square followed by any number of white ones, another black one, more white, ten black, more white, five black. It's... a lot more intuitive in the actual game.

And eventually, after filling in your black squares, you end up with pictures!

I've gotten up to the 30x30 puzzles in black & white, and I'm only now beginning to have real issues solving the puzzles. Some are harder than others, too, with some 10x10 puzzles being somehow more difficult to figure out than some 30x30 puzzles! I'll be honest, if it weren't for the alternate fills for the squares, I'd be well boned by now.

Your two main fill styles are a solid block of black or an X to mark which sections of the puzzle are 100% not colored in. If you're unsure, there are other symbols you can use! In B&W puzzles, I stick with a simple dot. I like to fill in experimental squares with the dots and see how that goes. Sometimes, I've solved puzzles that way!

And then there are the color puzzles...
I'll be honest, I haven't gotten to the color puzzles yet, but if they're anything like other nonogram/picross puzzles I've played, they'll be both easier and harder than the simply b&w ones. I've had three-color puzzles that have blown my mind and 15-color puzzles that were easy as pie. And you never know which you have until you start working with the numbers!

Personally, I love these games. I like to make a picture while trying to think my way around the numbers. It makes me feel far smarter than I am, and that's always a nice feeling!

If you're looking for a fun challenge, then I can suggest picking up a nonogram or picross game! It's kinda like if sudoku and paint-by-number had a baby... a weird cyberbaby...

That'll do it for me today!

Filmic Friday 209: Turbulence

Do you guys remember the stupid Heavy Metal Die Hard On A Plane movie I reviewed a while back? With the Canadians and not making sense and all that nonsense? Well...

Oh yes. There was a first movie in the Turbulence franchise...

And we watched it!
Turbulence is a movie from 1997 that feels like it was a script from 1989 cast with actors who's current careers are... ouch.

I mean, this movie stars Ray Liotta & Hector Elizondo!

So what is the dumb, dumb story for this ridiculous movie? Uh... lemme get back to you on that...

Hector Elizondo is a (possibly) crooked cop tracking down Ray Liotta, who it turns out is a serial killer who uses teddy bears as his calling card. There's a lot of back and forth on whether or not Liotta is guilty and if Elizondo actually planted evidence, but I'll save you some bad writing and say "yes" to both. Liotta is a crazy murderer, and Elizondo is a very bad cop. Regardless, they catch Liotta and put him on, of all things, a Christmas passenger flight with another crazy murderer. Elizondo is not on the plane.

Hope you enjoy crisis centers!
Of course, Liotta and the other crazy bad guy bust loose and kill all the marshals and also the pilot (oops), but they'd never planned on killing the co-pilot by accident - he ends up breaking his neck(?) in the cockpit during some namesake turbulence. There's a lot of plotty/actiony sequences through here, but the most important thing to realize is that literally no one except for Ray Liotta and Lauren Holly matter on this flight.

Lauren Holly (left) has some pretty good acting, believe it or not.
Female leads in action movies rarely get a fair shake, and she's kind of a secret badass...

Ray Liotta goes from this unassuming guy to bonkers in 0 seconds, so that's also fun...
If you remember the "plot" structure from Turbulence 3, then you know exactly how this movie goes. There's the takeover, the initial recovery, the betrayal/revelation, the secondary recovery, the fight scene, and the landing.

The Takeover:

Ray Liotta and fellow prisoner Brendan Gleeson (with a fairly convincing twang) take over the plane and kill everyone with weapons. Liotta kills Gleeson's character because Stubbs (Gleeson) is a moron and keeps trying to open the door while the plane is in flight. Idiot. Regardless, Weaver-the-definitely-a-serial-killer (Liotta) takes over the plane. During all this ruckus, the pilot is shot and dies and the copilot slams his head into the yoke during some turbulence and dies. Liotta finds this out and freaks out.

His original plan was probably more along the lines of "Land me in a non-extradition country and I'll vanish until they arrest me for killing their women!" but now it's "Welp, I'm gonna take everyone in here with me".

The plane is, I'll note, suspiciously empty of anyone under 18 years old...

Initial Recovery:

Lauren Holly's character establishes a link with the crisis center early on, and they help her maintain the airplane's course, telling her not to worry about the (apparently) hurricane-strength storm they're approaching. It's during this time that we begin to realize that not only is Liotta's character literally a psycho, but that Elizondo has in fact planted evidence to make the case against him that much easier.

Betrayal/Revelation:

Remember the other flight attendant in that black & white picture? Liotta chokes her to death and while she doesn't know this Lauren Holly starts to realize that Liotta is, in fact, a serial killer. She wisely locks herself in the cockpit where the crisis center talks her through more of the plane's systems with the help of a British pilot. Eventually, though, Liotta convinces Holly to come out of the cockpit and tries to do horrific things to her. He's stashed the passengers and remaining flight attendants in the crew section, which is tiny, and Holly is sure he's killed them.

Secondary Recovery:

Holly breaks free from Liotta, who has gone full-on-crazy and is humming Buffalo Gals to himself while trying to kill her. She locks herself back in the cockpit with the copilot's corpse and tries to land the plan at LAX, but... it doesn't work. One of the wheels gets stuck in a car, and the feds decide that they'll just kill everyone on the plane rather than let it crash. It's stupid, because by the time their fighter jet is alongside the jet, it would just crash into the ocean... just let it crash in the ocean, crimeny.

Fight Scene:

Liotta goes full-on Jack Torrence on the cabin door (which would never work in real life...) and he and Lauren Holly have an epic fight scene throughout the entire plane past all the corpses, past the most dangerous areas, and eventually, Holly does what people rarely do in movies.

Something this butthole really deserves, in fact...
She just pops him.

With a gun.

She straight up kills him dead.

It's awesome.

The Landing:

The fighter pilot from earlier? He doesn't want to kill Lauren Holly. He shoots the car off of her landing gear (which somehow doesn't destroy the engines...) and the British pilot from earlier talks Holly into landing.

There's tension, there are emotions, and it's actually a good scene. My favorite part is that even when the movie ends, the scenes don't stop. The whole time, even through the credits, we're shown the emergency crews helping the survivors, pulling bodies out of the plane, etc. Elizondo & co are doing what they do... it's kinda cool!

So, this is a weird, weird movie, and it's awesome. It's not very well-written, but Liotta's nutso acting more than makes up for it!

If you're looking for something to watch on a slow day and need some excitement!

That's all from me, today!

Go Enjoy Something!!!
