In Which I Do'd Some Stuff!

First things first - I actually finished one of my Downton Abbey Lady Sibyl shrugs! It's the beige one!

Here she is, draped over the back of a chair!

These pictures are of the shrug pre-blocking, so I'll have to take more when I block it (which will be done by washing it on cool and then air-drying it while it's pinned to some kind of blocking board. I'll probably put my beach towel over the ironing board, pin it to the towel, then lay another towel on top, gently ironing it into submission. We'll see if I get that done this week lol...

And because I'm ridiculous, I saw that Hooked By Robin on YouTube had a filet crochet square video up a year ago, and I just had to try it out with my other giant spool of beige crochet thread.

These are made with 5 rounds on a 2.0mm hook

What will I do with these squares? I have no idea, but I'm thinking of maybe trying to put together a fun little cardigan! If I can find thin pink & blue threads somewhere in my room (a hard task to be sure) I'll try making a multicolored cardigan! If I find the colors but not in large enough quantities, I might just make some buttons or use them to sew with. We shall see!

Anyhow, today was busy, but now I'm gonna make some dinner and crank out a couple more squares before I determine format & size for this thing!

Thursday Art Walk

 

I Was Gonna Paint, but Nah.

I have been sleeping poorly again. Blame the weather! It's been freezing the last few nights and then suddenly last night was warm enough that I had to switch from fuzzy pants and my big red blanket to yoga pants and my light sheet and cotton blanket. And I still roasted at times. With the fan on.

Clearly I'm not ready for spring.

My plans to sketch or paint today ended up being for naught. Instead, I ended up doodling a quick lil cube-y piece in digital art for y'all!

Hmm... what do you guys think? I'm interested in the ways the colors blend, but some of the green/purple stuff looks weird to me. I will be trying a lot of ways to play with colors before I figure out what's going to work, so please bear with me!

I wonder if I can do the angle/line trick on Paint.net...

We shall see!!!

Thursday Art Walk... ON FRIDAY!

 

In Which I've Done An Art (Hopefully Correctly)

Thursday was... a lot. The cat tried to be sus and get into the vent (I don't play that Among Us game, I just know that lingo because Twitter exists lol), the microwave's turntable is breaking down, and we got some bad news from a family member today. All of this is on top of my concentration being completely gone and my plans for Thursday all scattered like so many small birds...

It was, in short, not a great day to be trying over with the Block Art.

But I still did it!

YES! IT IS CRISP! IT IS SQUARE! IT IS HIP!

To me, this almost looks like some sort of blurred out photograph, maybe of someone dancing in a park! I really should try to refine a palette next time, but going for full random on Coolors.co was fun, so I'll look through their pre-generated palettes for inspiration. And it does set up a few more options for art in the future!

Pixel Art, here I come!

So yes, this went up on Friday instead of Thursday, and not for particularly great reasons. I really want to find out if I can add brush packs to Paint.net, too, because only having round brushes is the butts. Gimme some squares, guys. Or at least make it easier for me to figure out how to make squares without having to overuse Copy/Paste. My poor Ctrl, C, and V buttons are getting finnicky.

So yes, we have our first 100% success on Paint.net!

I'm gonna go to bed, because it's past 2AM and I am pooped.

Thursday Art Walk

 

In Which I Am... Not Done.

Now, usually, when y'all are kind enough to visit my blog while I'm working on art, I have the art finished, or at least presentable for you. This is... not the case today. That's nobody's fault but mine! I embarked on another "let's experiment with colors, math, and pixels" journey and... it's really neat looking, but it's barely half finished.

So I figured I'd give you guys a peek at how this particular image is going!

No, you resolution isn't off, it's just TINY for now. I'm going to fix that once I'm done by decreasing the white space and increasing the pixels-per-centimeter, but for now it's tiny and blurry. The blur is intentional (sort of) because it's something of a color study! I'm pretty stoked about how it's coming along, and eventually, Squares ver 1.0 will release lol.

As for why it's going up so late on Thursday, that's because I'm kind of frazzled this week. I have no excuse for that besides the wind. It's been windy as heck up here.

The threat of possible nuclear war certainly isn't helping me sleep either, but I'm not gonna talk much about the situation in the Ukraine because I'm not a journalist or an expert on European geopolitics. I am anti-war, pro-democracy, and I'm getting really sick of constantly having the world change for the worse. That's where I am on that subject.

This is not the kind of blog that hyperfixates on the state of the world regarding COVID or ongoing wars. I'm just trying to make art and sometimes banana bread.

I hope that's alright.

Anyways!

So I'll be continuing to work on Squares, versioning it up until it's 100% done, and then I'll post the finished piece!

It's been snowing a lot here, so the plows have been going by a lot, and between the noise of the plows & the wind, and the yo-yo temperatures, I'm constantly wiped. I'll be back on schedule soon, though, I think! Can't wait to tell you all the stories of my cat, the ducks, the crows, the deer, and just general blatheriness!
