Thursday Art Walk

In Which The Day's Title is Literal lol

Today's painting was brought to you by Bipedal Ambulation, aka Walking.

Lately, with the weather improving (yesterday it was 67℉/19,4℃), I've been more active. This means I've been going out more, which means that I've been scooping up little goodies to go in my Goblin's Purse I made a few weeks ago.

Generally, I just photograph these little Goblin Hauls and toss them in an empty Stroopwafel box, uploading the photos to my Instagram (which uh... is pretty much all I post there). This week I decided to also paint some of my finds!!!

A brown rock, a penny, a white rock, a spray of yellow ash leaves, and a red burning bush leaf are strewn on an aqua-toned background all rendered in watercolor and outlined with dark sepia lines.

Today is breezy and cool - I'm in my pajama pants and a Jack-o-lantern tee! It's 63℉/17,2℃ and sunny, the wind is blowing, there's 30-40 honeybees sipping water from our bird bath, and I feel fantastically cozy. I'm excited to enjoy the rest of the day.

If you'd like to have a say in what I draw or paint, feel free to throw a donation into my Ko-fi account with a message saying what category you'd like - Animal, Vegetable, Mineral, Geometric, Word, Dedbert, Location - and I'll make something based on that!

I hope all of your art dreams come true this week, folks :)

In Which I Did A Lot of Art

This week, rather than wait til 10pm on Wednesday night to find out what I'd be posting on Thursday, I decided to start working on some digital art pieces starting on Friday last week!

And I finished... several. With more in-progress.

These artworks would probably best be described as "Geometric" in terms of my list of possible labels, so here are a series of abstract geometric digital artworks!

"Linegraphic #1"; digital; 2022

"Linegraphic #2", digital, 2022

"Scoop #1", digital, 2022

As you can see, I'm experimenting with different colors, line-weights, and curves, and I'm having a lot of fun while doing it! Each piece is 500px square, and I really enjoyed playing around with them. I might try the shape function next week.

As for today, I'm just enjoying myself and taking it easy. I've listened to a lot of jazz, I've worked on more art, I've crocheted, I've advanced the plot of one of my stories (and some day, hopefully you'll get to read those...), and I've drank... nowhere near as much coffee as I'd like. I should really get another mug!

If you'd like to have a say in what I make for next week (in addition to the things I'm already doing) please feel free to send me a Ko-Fi donation with your request (Animal, Vegetable, Mineral, Geometric, Location, Word, or Dedbert), and I'll get on it!

Also, these designs are available on my Redbubble shop!

I hope you're all doing well, and I hope you can all...

Sketches Are Fun!

It was incredibly gorgeous yesterday. I'm talking 60℉ (15,6℃), sunny, breezy and gorgeous. I took a long walk downtown and wandered from shop to shop hoping to pick up a not-too-expensive sketchbook the size of a small hardcover or trade paperback. I wasn't successful with that, but on my way back I stopped at our local library, a massive granite building partly funded by Carnegie back in the day, and sat on a bench in the sun to sketch in the big sketchbook I brought with me.

Instead of continuing the Happiny saga, I ended up creating a character!

"Cooper"; graphite & Pigma pen, 2022

Cooper is a new character who doesn't quite have a story yet. I know some things about him - he's missing an eye and has various glass eyes he likes to wear with fun pupils or weird colors, he's unselfconscious about his scarring, he likes to wear incredibly fluffy jackets and faux fur, he's a mechanical engineer, and he dresses as a ridiculous copper-colored marabou velociraptor named Copper for fun.

I'm 99% certain he's gonna end up in one of my modern Steampunk-esque stories about sentient automatons from Wales. If I can figure out a way to simplify his characteristics, I'd also like to draw comics of him!

Now as for why I brought up the weather earlier... it was 16℉ (-8,9℃) and only got to about 24℉ (-4,5℃). Tomorrow we'll have snow (up to 18" or 45,72cm) and it will be maybe about half as warm as it got today. That's why I'm currently wearing an outfit made of wool and fleece and all of my blankets are on my bed lol. It's also why I am planning on taking all of tomorrow to make more art!

We'll see if I actually follow through, though, because I'm notoriously lazy as heck on snowy days!

Anyway, that's today's sketch/drawing. I think I'll work a little more on him later :)

And Stay Safe.

In Which I Am Back!

Welcome to 2022! Kinda a lot like 2021 (thankfully sans crazy people trying to break into the US Capitol!) but a fresh new year when we can do anything we want!

You haven't heard from me since before Christmas, huh. I'm sorry about that, but I've been quite busy! I'll talk more about that on Tuesday, but I've got a lot of stuff to blather about lol.

For today, though, I'll show you a very very nice gift my boyfriend got me for Christmas:

A lovely set of watercolors!

So pretty and metallic/pearlescent!!!

They do swatch up pretty nice, too!

This paint set has 36 gorgeous shiny paints in it. When it shipped, I'm sure it was all in order, but at some point it must've tilted because the pans were in disarray when I opened it up. As you may be able to tell from the stains on the sponge and the lid, I had already started swatching it.

It came with a pencil, a thin brush, a water brush, the dampening-sponge, and an eraser, and I have to say, both pencil & eraser are fantastic! I sharpened the pencil up so I could use it to draw a nice little New Year's painting!

"Happy New Year 2022!"; watercolor & Pigma pen; 2022

I have to say, at first I was unimpressed with the pigmentation of these paints, but then I realized that I have been using pans incorrectly.

Apparently, you have to rehydrate them a bit before painting with them (a quick spritz or drop of water left to soften the paint for a moment before you try to load your brush is recommended). Once I dripped water into the pans, it layered on beautifully! It's hard to see how bright and rich the colors are in that picture, because with how reflective these paints are, the light kind of bounces all over the place! Those feet are super orange-copper!

A very shiny birb!

Thank you for coming back to see my art, and I hope you'll stick around for Monday when one of the reasons for my blog silence will be made obvious, and then Tuesday when I'll explain myself even better!

Hope this year is treating you well so far!

In Which I Make Progress!

I got several deliveries over the last week or so, all of which were related to art! I tried very hard not to be overbearing about the wait, too, but...

Guys, for some reason one of my packages got delayed again!

From Amazon, I ordered some really nice Sakura products - some Pigma fineliners and my first white Gelly Roll pens, and I added on a sepia tone fineliner to get free shipping. Now, the sepia liner is apparently coming all the way from Japan, so I 100% understand why it's not due til next month at the earliest and it's not like I need a sepia fineliner right now lol.

But see, my Gelly Rolls were due the 16th, which came and went. Okay, that'll happen during a pandemic. So I check tracking and find out that it's in my town, same as last time, and it's "awaiting delivery scan", whatever that means.

I received them yesterday because they never delivered the mail to my street on Monday or Tuesday.

My Improved Stash of Painting/Drawing Implements

Now, let's add some insult to this.

See I also ordered from Dick Blick for the first time. Bought a ream of 100 sheets of 5"x7" (~12.7cm x 17.78cm) of 100% rag 300gsm/140lb rough-surfaced paper. On the 16th. They shipped late in the day on the 17th and arrived safe and sound at my door (despite the box being a bit crunched) in the early afternoon of the 18th.

My Block of Paper

I'm going to have to get used to this rough texture, but with that quick turnaround, I might just have to suck up the 8 dollar shipping and order more stuff via Blick. That was a great experience all around.

Speaking of that paper!

"Mountain 01"; watercolor on rag paper; 2021

It holds paint beautifully! It is going to take some getting used to, but I can definitely see myself making a lot of art with this fun, nubbly paper! Now, you may notice I didn't add any outlines, despite my new fineliners coming in (though I drew ripples on the lake with the Gelly Roll!) - that's because I need to practice. A lot.

Black & White Swatches

The Microns are exactly as I remember, which is maybe not so helpful on a paper so textured as watercolor paper, but when I do regular colored pencil or gel pen drawings, they should be great! The Pigma Graphic, meanwhile, is a bit chunkier and easier to control. I'm going to have to practice a ton with the Pigma Brush, though. It's very new to me.

I'm not entirely impressed with the coverage on my 05 Gelly Roll pens, but the 08 and 10 pens cover very nicely!

I do have to cut this short - it's uh...

It's nearly midnight lol.

I've got to get some sleep!
