Fiber Monday 13

It's another roasty week, guys. Prepare for more sweaty grumblings.

As it is, we do have a project to finish, so let's get to it!

We're learning a few new things today!

1) We're learning to join to a project already in progress
2) We're learning how to put an edging on a project
3) We're learning hdc today!

So let's get started.

Pick a place on your finished project and put your hook in like so.

You want a good amount of space on either side to work from and then to.
You'll understand why in a bit.

Now you want to wrap the yarn around your hook and, keeping the loose end still, you're going to make a slip-stitch!

And then you chain. You want three of these chain-shapes.
Then wrap your yarn around the hook again.

Dive into the next stitch with that extra loop still on.
When you're in the next stitch, yarn over (wrap the yarn) like you'd do a normal stitch.

Pull that yarn through all the loops you've had left on the hook (should be 3).

Congrats! You've done an hdc  (half-double crochet) stitch!
Now do a bunch more until the next to last stitch in the row.

Yarn over and make a new stitch.

Then do it two more times in the same stitch!
That means you have three hdc stitches in the corner there!

Now you're going to work along the side, making sure you have one hdc per row!
Don't for get to do 3 hdc in each corner until you reach the last corner!

Hang on, we have no way to hang this puppy. Let's fix that.

Make your first hdc in the corner like before, but don't make a second one yet!

Instead, chain an odd number of chains. I did 7, you could do 5.
Then make your last hdc.
Congrats! It's a loop!

Finish hdc up to the chains we did at the start - we're going to close this puppy up!

Insert your hook into the top of the ch3 we did at the start - you're just going to slip-stitch through!

Once you've finished your slip stitch (shown above), you're going to want to tie it off like the last project we did and weave in any ends. I covered up my fresh tails in this project just like I did with the first tail (a couple weeks ago).

Et Voila! It's a completed cloth for scrubbing any number of things or keeping your tables from scorching!

I hope I was able to help at least one person struggling with hdc or with edging in general, but we'll have plenty of other projects to work on together for me to refine my photography and my crochet.

I have no idea what to make next... How exciting!

Go Enjoy Something!!!
