Saturday Casual Gaming 215: Idle Hamlet

To Be or Not To Be...

Who am I kidding? This game has nothing to do with Shakespeare. It says so right in its own description on Kongregate! From Vectorinox, a fairly private developer (since their Kongregate profile is set to private, which I've never seen before...), comes this strange, yet beautiful, little idle game.

You play as the unwilling caretaker of a terrible little hamlet in the middle of nowhere, desperately trying to scratch a living from the unforgiving earth, constantly besieged by monsters, and occasionally host to the random guest. I currently have two guests who consist of a weird tailor who stole someone's identity and a straight-up extortionist. What do you do with these guests? You send them to go kill your monster problem, of course.

I have no idea who she is and I'm a little weirded out, to be honest...
Before you can have your guests, however, you have to have enough resources! Resources are found in a number of tabs. Thankfully, most things only require you to hover over them to collect resources. You only click on things to level them up.

This is very, very early game. Your first two resources are food & material.
Food drives your population, which drives how many Guests you get and unlocks other resources.
Material unlocks resources and are used to build new Farms, Sawmills, etc.
Now, this game may look simple, but it's got its idiosyncrasies, such as needing to click on certain parts of a Guest's portrait to get them into your party or how that weird wide bar on the left with the 1 in the middle is actually how many of each resource or building or whatever you're trying to buy. Yeah. It can get a little confusing.

Thankfully, that little question mark in the upper right hand corner gives great instructions.

Honestly, this game has a good layout, it has an interesting concept, and it's pretty fun - you'll be surprised what happens when you leave it alone for a while! Boy, that idle, offline time adds up fast...

It's a good game, and if you're looking for something to sink some time into while you're waiting for the bathroom or your laundry or something, I say go for it!

Go Enjoy Something!
