Wednesdaymania 242: New Wrestling Is Good

In which I love wrestling
AEW's Dynamite continues to wow (and I may also type about tonight's episode when it's done, so keep an eye out, maybe) on TNT, and I can't wait to watch more. Every episode has been great.

They're not the only ones with a new show, though!

The NWA has created a show called POWERRR, a very much 80s throwback with decent production value, nostalgic sets, and a fun studio feel. There's a very big difference between Studio and Arena wrestling.

AEW is Arena Wrestling - the crowds are far larger and louder, but there's an absolute remove between the fans and the wrestlers unless they're front row or next to the ramp.

POWERRR is genuinely Studio Wrestling. The venue is small and intimate. The interview sets are visible to the crowd. Everything is happening right in front of you, the audience. There can be no secrets. Well, obviously, there can, but it's much harder to hide things. Fans interact directly with wrestlers during all segments of POWERRR. You can hear them hollering during matches, yes, but during interviews, the wrestlers are still hearing the raucous crowd and responding!

AEW has also introduced an online show for their dark matches (matches that occur outside of the parameters of an episode of Dynamite - either before or after, and which may or may not count towards win-loss records. Aptly named AEW Dark, the show has recaps of the episodes the matches occurred before or after, interviews, and Tony Schiavone is the main host. It's pretty great, and it's also where we get to see things like Kenny Omega vs Joey Janela.

So basically, we've got some great options for wrestling, especially when you consider what a dumpster fire WWE has become. I mean, it was always a bit of a smolder, but now it's a full-blown conflagration of trash.

And now I don't even have the Firefly Fun House to interest me. It's like they desperately want people to stop watching...

Ugh.

Anyway, that's all I have to say for now about wrestling.

All this new stuff looks good!

Go Enjoy Something!
